Mastiksoul shows recovery after serious diagnosis: "I was fighting for my life"

After an arduous battle against a serious diagnosis, as he revealed to his fans in October 2024, Mastiksoul has now updated his health status - and the news, according to him, is hopeful.

This Wednesday, June 18, the well-known DJ shared two images that portray him in the most fragile phase of his life, still in a hospital bed and receiving treatments, and later, already in 'artist mode'.

"These photos are 7 months apart, in one I was fighting for my life, in the other life doesn't leave me. Nothing lasts forever, not even evil, don't give up and be strong. Thank you to everyone who never gave up on me," he wrote in the caption of the publication.

From the outset, several followers made a point of leaving messages of support for the personality in the comments box.

"You're huge. Everything will be fine," it reads. "You are and will always be a fighter!", added another. "What doesn't kill us, bro, makes us stronger, you are a warrior and you always will be," it reads.

Five days earlier, Mastiksoul also shared a fun video in which he appeared to be happily singing his latest song in the car - 'Minha Mãe Dizia', as part of a duet with Bruno Ventura. "Today was like that, happy and joyful singing the song of the moment", highlighted the musician.

Fernando Figueira, the artist's real name, became known after releasing hits such as 'Gasosa' and 'Tou na Moda'.

A "rare" and "serious" diagnosis

In October 2024, the 47-year-old DJ made his diagnosis public by sharing it on social media.

At the time, he revealed that he was "admitted to a hospital receiving treatment", after "having been diagnosed with a rare and serious health condition, known as compartment syndrome".

"This condition requires intensive medical care, and the artist is being closely monitored by a team of specialists. We ask that you respect the privacy of Mastiksoul and his family at this delicate time. We appreciate everyone's understanding and the support that has been expressed," read an official statement.

The 47-year-old artist was diagnosed with compartment syndrome.

What is compartment syndrome?

According to the MSD Manual, compartment syndrome "consists of increased tissue pressure within a tight fascial compartment, resulting in tissue ischemia." One symptom is "exaggerated pain proportional to the degree of injury." Common causes include "fractures, severe contusions or crush injuries, and reperfusion injury following vascular injury and repair."
